Coming Off The Pill

-COMING OFF PILL.jpg

You're having symptoms that could be related to the pill (headaches, mood changes, loss of libido), you are starting to think about pregnancy, or maybe you just have a sense that the pill is not right for your body. No matter the reason, coming off the pill (or other hormonal birth control) is a big decision. Whilst it often feels like the right thing to do, considering changing your method of birth control brings up a whole host of questions:

Will my cycle be regular? When will I get my period back? Will I put on weight? Will I get post-pill acne? What about contraception?

The pill works by switching off estradiol and progesterone which are responsible for ovulation, and replacing these with synthetic hormones. This means that when you stop taking the pill, your body needs to re-learn how to produce these hormones. Sometimes this process happens easily, and other times it needs a little bit of help.

Supporting your body through the transition off hormonal birth control with targeted diet, supplement, and lifestyle changes will help to make this change as simple as possible. Tamika works with you to identify potential drivers of period problems before you started the pill, and addresses these before you stop taking it. This allows your body to have the smoothest possible transition to natural hormone production and all of the benefits that regular ovulation brings. These drivers vary greatly depending on how your periods were before you took hormonal birth control.

FAQs

How many appointments will it take for me to come off the pill?

The length of time it will take for your body to get back to normal post-pill depends on what your cycles were like before you started taking the pill. If you had regular cycles with no major issues, you will be able to come off the pill straight away, before your first appointment. You will likely only need 1 or 2 appointments to address potential nutrient deficiencies created by the pill and to check how your cycles are post-pill. If you suffered from irregular, painful or otherwise abnormal cycles before the pill, you will most likely still suffer from these issues once you stop taking it. If you are in this boat, we will work together for around 2 sessions to being to treat these issues before you stop the pill. This will minimise issues once you stop taking it. You may then need around 2 sessions post-pill to make sure everything is getting back to normal.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

For a decade, I battled chronic acne around my chin and jawline, irregular cycles, mood swings, hair loss, painful periods, severe digestive issues and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). You name it - I’ve been there!

I was finally able to clear my skin, regulate my cycle, be free of period pain and fall pregnant naturally with my daughter in 2020. It took me 10 years and tens of thousands of dollars in tertiary education to get the answers I needed to get better. I didn’t want other women to wait as long as I did which is why I’ve dedicated my life to helping women in the same position as I was, to learn how to interpret what their body’s so desperately wants them to understand, and then develop the right roadmap to address their unique conditions.

I'm here to help you get on track!
