Preconception Care

You finally feel settled in your life and ready to start thinking about bringing a new human in to the world - how exciting! You want to prepare in the best possible way but there is so much conflicting advice on what to do. Preconception care is something I am extremely passionate about and can guide you on the best, evidence-based paths to take.

Why is preconception care important?

The preparation period leading up to a pregnancy can have an enormous impact on both the health of mother and baby during pregnancy, and the lifelong health and disease risk of the future child. Preconception care is a powerful tool which has the ability to influence the lives of our future generations.

What does preconception care involve?

Implementing a realistic, enjoyable diet and lifestyle plan as well as addressing any chronic health issues before you begin trying to conceive. This is one of the most powerful things you can do for your future baby.

How long before I can start trying to conceive?

Preparing your body for pregnancy is a two-person job. I can work with you and your partner to get you in to the best shape possible before you conceive. In an ideal situation, I would see both partners a minimum of 3 months before you plan to begin trying to conceive as this is the time it takes for an egg and sperm to mature. Any influences on your health during the 3 months leading up to conception (drinking, poor diet, stress, travel, emotional challenges) can have a direct impact on the health of your future child.

Book an appointment with me today to begin this exciting journey towards starting a family with the best possible start in life.
